How many did Sven have. Tried below class players as occasionally Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool players were rested and in my opinion was a total waste of time as...

a) The likes of Andy Johnson, etc are never going to start up front in WC/Euro
b) He still dropped Defoe and took Walcott
c) That much tinkering i dont think he knew his best team.

Qualifying games. you pick best team available on the day on current form. If Lennon, Barton and Barry are on fire for their club then play them

Scrap friendlies during the 2 years before a comp. Just end season early before WC/Euros and give the players a month together to then play friendlies. The likes of Johnson, Barry, Barton know they will never start for England in a major comp and are only playing at the mo because others are rested so can hardly be inspired. They hardly being made to feel wanted.

Also get rid of McClaren, he was Svens number 2 so during the shambles of the last WC he either a) didnt have anything positive to suggest , b) didnt have the balls to speak up. Either way you dont want someone like that in charge.

For me if available the England squad should be the 30 best current players available the month before. If either Gerrard or Lampard isnt doing it then keep them in the squad but dont make them auto choices just because of their name.
