| Showing My Age I suppose but the following would make it in m list Zidane - Artist with the ball at his feet. Complete mastery of it unlike any I have seen. Maradona - Dribbling ability that no-one has matched. Michael Johnson - So far ahead of his competitors it was ridiculous Shane Warne - Fat loud mouthed oaf. Brilliant cricketer. Schumacher - At the top for long enough to be considered great. Brilliant to watch when it rained. Jonah Lomu - Possibly in here because he made a massive impression when I was at an impressionable age but I marveled at people just bouncing off him. Ali - Anyone can appreciate the man, even if they were not there. Brilliant boxer and brilliant charisma. Woods - Has taken golf onto another level There are probably more but this is all off the top of my head in 2 minutes of typing. I think there is room to get Shaun Goater in there somehow and I'll address that at some point. |

| I have always had a huge soft spot for Flat Jack Simmons, the Lancashire spinner (or perhaps tweaker) whose aversion to modern custom and practice with regard to physical fitness, even in the 70s, was legendary. I have his testimonial brochure somewhere, in which there were lots of stories about attempts to ban him from the chip shop and the like. He would, however, always manage to get his pie and chips (double portions) somehow. I seem to remember Brian Clough penning a tribute, in which he confessed, as I believe he did elsewhere, that he would far rather have possessed a talent for cricket, which was his first love. But the 'greatest' sportsman I ever saw in the flesh was Viv Richards, in utterly imperious form in the Trent Bridge test somewhere round the same time, creamng Bob Willis, in his pomp, all over the park as he kept running in faster and faster, to absolutely no avail whatsoever. |

| Not much into the footy, cricket stuff.Mainly the horses for me and i do like my snooker. I know it's been said a thousand times but-Jimmy White really is the best player never to have been World champ.Trouble was i used to back him ever year, increasing my stake each year to get the former year's losses back.Thought i'd cracked it when,in the mid 90s,he was beating Hendry by about six frames-Hendry won the next eight to beat poor Jimmy yet again. Still got a soft spot for Jimmy, though. It's called a swamp |

| Gold Member | Agree with that U/R.... Jacks an absolute squat thrust legend. Also, I can't believe anyone on here from Yorkshire [or possibly Somerset] has not mentioned the legend, the inestimably great and defiant grand wizard of tough bastards.... I present for your consideration MR D.B.CLOSE. For my money he is Yorkshire. |

| One that seems to have slipped through the net: Severiano Ballesteros Not a lot to say about him really other than he was so exciting to watch in his prime, it just seems so boring watching today's target golf in comparison.
