ok, let's start off, its 2007 a whole new ball game, we need a plan
got a bankroll, what's the best way to increase it?

Cash or tourney?
live or online?
if tourney,
STTs or MTTs?
freezeout, rebuys or deep stacks?
are the sats for EPT, WPT or WSOP good value?

what is the best site to play
for cash?
for big event qualifiers?
for rake?

Well done, gondorff and that's a lot of questions.I will post in Gold and ask the Members there to reply.
Presumably you know your own strengths and weaknesses and should play to them. If you are feeling your way around then I suggest you try most of the options in an effort to find your spot.
All the disciplines are very different from each other and to be good or bad at one of them doesn't necessarily mean that you will be bad or good at all of them.
The only disciplines in which I have failed so far are Cash Holdem low limit and no limit,Cash Omaha on Paradise(when I was starting out on the net), MTT on Betfair although I was a very good winner in the old £5000 Guaranteed Tourney which is now defunct.
I have been a good winner at all other tourneys whether STT or MTT and R&A(rebuy and add-on).Of those I most prefer 10runner STT to any other format and that is the steadiest way to win if you are good enough.
Have hardly touched 6pack or satellite.

Stay tuned,gondorff.

cheers mgt, i forgot to mention heads-up and the various disciplines....omaha, hi-lo, stud, razz....etc
do you have to be good at any, or just better than the players you're playing against?

36 has done the business and you are back in Gold. Will answer questions later.

For any Silver Members genuinely wanting to get back into Gold, you would do very well to follow gondorff's example with a positive posting in here.

OK ! That last question is right up my street. I was brought up on 7card and played all the 'funnies' as a young man.In the 80s I played London Lowball (7card).
Prior to playing on the net I had never played '8 ceiling' games and had long given up 7card, preferring flop games.
Nowadays I play Omaha and HiLo8, mainly in Tourneys but occasionally cash Omaha on BF.
This is my opinion.......The pool of players for both these disciplines is much smaller than for NLTH and since the changes in US law, is even smaller.

I thought therefore that only specialist players would be playing and that the standard would be very high. This is not the case and certainly not at the lower levels at which I mainly play.
The case is that there is an enormous difference in quality between the best players and the worst in all three formats .....Omaha both Cash and Tourney and Tourney HiLo.
A couple of factors apply here. The cash games at the low levels attract a lot of newcomers to Omaha and they are dreadful. Also present are one or two sharks who must do very well.
In the Tourneys there is also the factor that some of the more skilled technical players cannot play Tourneys and are unused to Pot Limit. The latter applies less since it became less of an American based field.
The good players at HiLo8 are really good and I see a very few names up in lights all the time.I have enjoyed great success at HiLo8 through rigourous card selection before and on the flop. This takes me a long way in tourneys and I know how to move up on the FT.Unfortunately I dont seem good enough to win one but have had a few seconds in MTT.
You really need to know how to play but can read stuff on the net and play at the low levels to improve.

cheers mgt, ditto re gold.
its all about having an edge, like any gambling activity
remember reading a story brunson told about the guy who was the 7th-ish best player in the world, but he kept losing money. his problem was that he played with the best 6,

I mainly play on Crypto on the Hills skin. There is 30% rb avail on just about all of them. I like the software and format and tournaments.

I do well in the £2 mtts and occasionally play the satellites to try and qualify for the 2 bigger tournaments (12k gtd - 8pm start & 8k gtd - 9.30pm start)

The cash games i tend to stick to the £0.15/£0.25 or £0.25/£0.50. It is pretty much easy to grind out a decent return there by being patient and waiting for a hand. At this level dont worry about them folding to your aces as majority either watching porn or playing 5-8 tables at a time and have no idea how you have bet or folded in the previous hour. I remember one of my earlier games when i had played 2 hands in an hour and won both (AA & QQ)
and had folded to 2 all ins on a separate hand and admitted i would have sucked out the win had i played my AK. Anyways i get AA again raised 6x bb , SB jams and i call , HE has JT of spades and hits 2 pair. I say dont you know tight i have played here and he said half the time the only moment he saw the table was when it popped up for his turn to act.
99% of the time - Image is nothing so dont expect it to be.

I also like the £3 stts for 1 simple reason - they cost more to enter in % fee terms.

£1 + £0.20 fee
£3 + £0.60 fee
£5 + £0.50 fee

so basically the lower games are a hefty 20% fee. Normally you would say dont play as its a rip off and not value but i play them on the basis that supposedly better players or value players wont so realistically they prob full of people playing for fun or newbies stepping up from the £1 games.

My roll is increasing and whilst its not enough to buy cars or fill limos with champagne bottles and head for the EPT as long as i can keep playing, not having to deposit and occasionally withdraw a wedge to pay for summer hols flights or christmas then its all good
