| Gold Member | Her indoors and I have made a decision. No, not that one! We've decided to commit next year to the English Social Calendar. That means Ascot, Wimbledon, Cowes, Glyndbourne, Henley, etc. Which of these are rated and recommended and which should be avoided like the Plague? And are there any gems you can all recommend to us? I've only been thinking for an hour or so and I've run a little dry. Just what IS the English Social Calendar? Is there an official list? As you can see it's mostly sports events at the mo apart from Glyndbourne (think that's what it's called). But obviously we'd like to fit in a few non-sporting events too. Thoughts anyone? I'm quoting 8-9 on the spreads for number of replies here. |

| I definitely ain't going to Royal Ascot again. £60 (not including the travel and outfits) to have your basic rights taken away from you i.e. can't get a drink when you want, can't have a piss when you want, can't stand anywhere without being barged by the masses, can't see the racing. Anyway, fuck knows what the English Social Calendar is! |

| I could be wrong, but I think both Glastonbury and the World Crab Fishing Championships at Walberswick both feature...both white tie events, I believe

| Ascot gets worse every year IMHO. I used to love it but detest more and more as each year passes. You get charged top whack for everything from tickets to champagne and get treated like dog shit. However, polo at Cowdray Park is top notch as is the Henley Regatta. It's not a society day butjust got back from the Ebor meeting at York - fucking great. Everything that Ascot isn't!

| We get a news story once a year of some characters swimming under water in muddy creek, trying to see who can swim the furthest. That sounds like a cracking event?

| Gold Member | On Bog-Snorkelling... Competitors have to complete two lengths of a 60 yard trench cut through the peat bog in the quickest time possible, wearing snorkels and flippers (wet suits optional but advisable) but without using any conventional swimming strokes. Does doggie-paddle count? If not, how on earth is it done? |
