ah, but i'd be using a false name!

...something like Wright, or Mills. They'd read that name on the CV and give me a job straight away!

Yes maybe if I use my middle name I might be considered as well though I am not sure I would enjoy being called "boy" for long.

First things first we need a nickname protocol. Sky have already taken the surname + 'y'

Can I suggest surname + 'o'

As fsr as the horses go, I think most of the bookmakers get a tissue compiled by 2 guys (Michaels and Simmonds I think). They then have their own odds compilers tweak the odd one here and there which explains why there's so little variation (e.g. if their own compiler makes something a 8/1 shot which is 4/1 on the M&S tissue they probably only have to go 5/1 or 11/2 to ensure they'll be best priced about it). If they weren't all working from the same base tissue you'd see some really freaky variation and the bookmakers would be even bigger shite bags than they are now. Cubone used to say Bob Love, who died not that long ago, was a good compiler but someone told me that even he got to see the M&S tissue before he released his own (not that that detracted from his tissue - it merely illustrates the fact that no one wanted to stray too far from the base tissue).

Compiling horse odds is a much bigger problem than the likes of football odds where there's a lot more info to go on. If a football compiler is out on a limb with some team all he has to do next time is adjust his view accordingly which is why the variation on football is low, particularly on domestic matches (the variation will be greater at the start of a season but gradually reduce as the compilers learn from their "mistakes" and their views merge).

Mister Logico sounds vaguely mysterious and a little cool, even if it sounds like someone who does magic tricks at children's parties..

Where do I join?

So does that mean their name is really Sk, but they want a more laid back approach?

On a more serious note, if the initial poster is being serious(and I have formed a book based on my views) then a read at feck's post won't go amiss. I believe than opening the book is less of an issue, I mean you could just wait and copy even if you didn't have access to the general tissues. Betfair is not always the answer as the moves will not happen at the same time, so a complete morning book from betfair would be like russian roulette.
But it's when the money starts coming in, that's when the fun starts, because if you have made a rick, it will be pounced upon. If you make somehing too short it will be left and soon your book will soon look like a three legged table. So my advice would be, stock up on beer mats, or get a real job.

The traditional method of running an internet bookie in the UK is to get some YTS kid to come up with the quotations from the back of a fag packet. That'll cost you £100 a week.

You can then spend several hundred times that on risk managers to monitor accounts of those that can identify his blatant ricks.
