Thanks to ilunga and Walter. Re-reading this thread pre-kick-off got me over the line when I was wondering whether to back Robben or not. Nothing on the Mexico game. But Portugal v Iran looks good. I went for Ronaldo against Angola and was convinced he was going to get it until he was hauled off after 60 mins. He got given it in several of the papers but the official result was Figo. He's 7/1 to get it this time which is definitely enough to arouse my interest but I just wonder if he's in danger of being subbed again. He's already on a yellow card and, with his short fuse, he might get himself into bother if Iran try to kick him. Figo (7/1), Deco (15/2) and Pauleta (6/1) would be the other contenders I think.

Something I've been wondering about Portugal is this - when Deco returns he will favour the role Figo took in the first game. But the general view is that Figo lacks the pace to be moved to his old spot on the wing. So how will they accomodate both?

Czech Republic v Ghana Rosicky looks a bit of a false favourite at 5s here. Doesn't necessarily follow that he'll star again. Therefore Pavel Nedved at 7s (bet365) must be the man most likely (11/2 elsewhere) given that the Czechs should win. With only the lumbering Lokvenc up front (Baros and Koller both out), there's few other likely candidates. I thought Michael Essien was superb against Italy and could be worth a shout at 9/1 (bet365). He's 6s at Paddy Power. But strong chance that he'll be on the losing side and that would rule him out it seems. Nedved for me with a saver/semi-win on Essien.

Can't pick any faults in that Dave. I think the Czech-Ghana game is the best option as there's not that many options. Nedved had a good game against USA so he appeals most. Essien would have probably got it had Ghana got anything so I think he's got big chances if they don't lose. I've had a few quid on Appiah as well at 12s as I'm expecting a better performance from him. I can't see their strikers doing much. One more is Sulley Muntari at a massive 33s. He was disappointing as well but he's a class act on his day. 33s is way too big.

Cheers. Yeah that's the problem. It would be nice if FIFA opened their eyes and took Crespo's goal off him. I would bite your hand off for five goals. Would give my 900 on him for Golden Boot a fair chance as well

Predictable. Essien was alright for me but it really should have been Muntari. It's not a great price but I can't see past the predictability of Ronaldinho today. You just know that if he does anything half-decent the 'technical study group' will be loving it. I'm on at 3/1. Tempted by Srna at 12s for Croatia but I can't see any clear value in the othet two games.

Yes, very happy with that although feel sorry for the Muntari backers. However, I guess the point of this thread is that it pays to make dumb-ass obvious picks rather than shrewd ones. The beauty of it though is that these dumb-ass obvious picks are coming in at very nice prices. So like you say, ilunga, Ronaldinho is a must. You can actually back Ronaldinho and Kaka combined and just about get odds against. But might just stick with the goofy one.
