Default The Gabba,1954. History repeating itself?

Australia Scored 601/8 in the first innings at the Gabba and went on to win by an innings 154 runs. As I type, Australia are 571/8 and will probably declare once they have 600 up. I would say there is also a fair chance that England will lose by an innings too, provided Australia enforce the follow-on.

However, are there over parallels to be drawn? Harmison is shockingly out of form, wayward and erratic, and may people are writing him off for the series already. Well the same was said of Frank Tyson in the first test at the Gabba in 1954 as he was carted around the ground ending up with figures of 160/1. After some advice from Len Hutton before the second test, Tyson finished the series taking 28 wickets at 20 apeice, acclaimed as one of the greatest fast bowling perfomances ever. England went on to win the series 3-1.

So can the England set-up turn Harmison's performance around in time for the second test? If they can, England will be back in the series.

Ashes Prediction: 3-1 England (NAP)

Good post - and wishful thinking! Ended 9/602 - Ponting obviously doesn't have an eye for history.

Actually I think 602/9 looks better - the Aussies prefer it the other way around
