Default Help please

Hi
My elderly father enjoys the odd bet, i do not understand betting so can someone please explain the following:- on saturday I placed a bet for him 3 £2.00 each way doubles on two horses, one was a non runner and the other came third at 40-1 the betting office said there was nothing to come back, is that true and if so why. The horses were Top Lock 3.05pm Ascot and Donegal 4.55pm Ascot.
thanks in anticipation

Hello Rob, Donegal was not a non-runner. It ran and finished eighth, therefore your Dad's bet is a loser.
