Hi Everyone,
Was half thinking of introducing myself in the Sports bar, but mindful of the 'quality not quanity' requirements here, so I will try to kill two birdie's:{oops}: with the one post.
I wasn't a regular on BF, so not sure anyone would remember me, I think it was Mr Ed, but it's an old account and I have no great desire to get involved again.
Golf and football are my main punting vices, but from what I am told, I'm not sure I can bring thye same gourmet delights to the table as what is already there. But even if it's just a scrunched up napkin, I will endeavour to bring it.
Anyway, back to the golf, it was nice to see 'the 6 million dollar hardon':{oops}: grind the young upstart into submission last week. I am great believer in victories like this kick starting a few other 'also rans' into action. Not convinced it will happen here, but a few specialist US Open 'out of formers' may see this as a decent leveller.
Step forward my first fancy Mike Weir, Got derailed at Muirfield Village a couple of weeks ago on day one, appeared to pull it back on the second day, going -2 after 4 with two par 5's ahead, only to derail again. Last week was a similar story, but he managed to make the cut and get all 4 rounds in. Weir record in US Opens is not that of a 150/1(thanks Laddies) chance. For the stat men too. He has improved his position from round three to round four in his last 4 US Opens, he has improved his position from 3 to 4 in all 10 the events he has played 4 rounds. So we want him lying second on Saturday.
Robert Allenby was due some burn out this year and I hope that happened between the Masters and Muirfield Village, with last week showing signs of a return. Still too much of a bridemaid for me, so that is why Stan James 80's WITHOUT Woods, appeals more than the 80's with him!!!
One last throw is Tom Pernice who missed the cut last week by one, despite hitting an 80 in round one. Last year's US Open saw him fire a first round 79 to follow it with 72, 70 and 71, one of the best finishes in the field. A better start may just produce a better finish, but more inclined to take the 100/1 top US without Woods.
Sorry my last throw is Davis Love, simply because I would contenplate topping myself if he romped home and I wasn't on!!!!
A footnote for the Euro event, Maritz 2nd last year is 80's first 6 at Sunderlands, this event won't take a great deal of winning.
